Biography/ Discography

 

  The first influences of René Perez Zapata are found in the rock world : Emerson Lake and Palmer, Magma and then in the jazz world : Miles Davis, Chick Coréa, Herbie Hancok, Keith Jarrett...

 

At 21 he meets Roy Robinson leader of the famous Titanic rock band, with whom he collaborates in France and United States from 1981 to 93. (album "Heart of Rock" published in 1994).

 

Back in France, he developed his own musical universe with a first  album in 1994 : "Oeil de nuit" , then with the album "Gandra" (distributed by D.A.M in 2000), a resolute modern and electric Jazz.

 

At the same time, he creates and participates to various formations like Brownies, Dimension Libre (with Bernard Kalef), Reservoir Dog's, Vertigo et Second World (with Rudy Piccinelli).

 

In 2006 he founds the René Perez Zapata trio with  Rudy Piccinelli/ Fabien Leroy (drums) and Christian Brazier (double bass).

 

Always attracted by the adventure of improvisation, he  follows experiments  with various formations. In 2004 with Kamukaï, collective of free improvisation, the Polychronie Ensemble "Electric and Acoustic Counterpoints" (composition of Bernard Kalef), Rudy Piccinelli quartet (modern jazz) and Zaj Quartet in 2010 offering a jazz based on instantaneous composition.

 

He also develops Solo projects and Duets through his meeting of other musicians : Gianni Gebbia, Dan Roth, Famoudou Don Moyé, Tim Perkis, Nelly Pouget...

 

Album "Phasme"  (Jazz trio) release in 2015 at ACMjazz label

( Socadisc/Absilone).

Digitals Albums "Robots"(instrumental Keyboards) release in april 2016  and "My Heart" (piano solo) release in august 2016 (Absilone/ Believe Digital).
